    Stumped

Millennial Law Prof isn't really on hiatus so much as its author is stumped. I've been appointed as the Assistant Dean for Academic Advising and have been contemplating the line between discussing issues that impact and result from having Millennials as the most-represented generation in law schools while not wanting to write anything that might give the students I work with the impression that I automatically favor or disfavor any particular generation or group of students. I'm also gaining some interesting insight into working with more Millennials more closely and seeing more closely how they relate to not only me but also their other professors. Unfortunately, while fascinating, most of that stuff is all off limits for public discussion.

I'm also exhausted. I'm certainly far from the first person to balance an administrative post with teaching, and I love both of my roles. But having office hours that can span for 8 or 10 hours sometimes is a shock to my come-and-go-as-you-please faculty constitution.

With the first two weeks of the semester behind me, though, I'm turning back to my research and writing and thinking again about Millennial issues.

    Screencasting with CamStudio

I'm working on a video tutorial for the ICW, and I'm using CamStudio, one of the screencasting resources metioned in the link I posted yesterday. In a nice example of modeling, there's a good video tutorial on YouTube that shows how to make a video tutorial using CamStudio (just search "CamStudio" on YouTube). I chose CamStudio over Screencast-o-matic because I was having trouble with the Java plug-in (or, for the uninitiated: it just didn't work right). Stay tuned for how that goes.

Here's something else handy that Touro librarian extraordinaire Leslie Wong introduced me to: Classroom Jeopardy, http://classroomjeopardy.com/index.aspx. At this site, you can easily create Jeopardy game for use in class. Don't be distracted by the offers to sell you lots of equipment and cartridges; it's not necessary.

    Screencasting

Screencasting is a way you can create a video tutorial of something that you would do on a computer. You can capture (i.e., record) video of the screens that you go through to complete the task and record your voice over the video, giving instructions along the way. You can then post it on your web site or upload it to something like YouTube. Posting to YouTube is super easy, if you haven't tried it yet.

Here are some tips and resources for screencasting: http://mashable.com/2008/02/21/screencasting-video-tutorials/

    Whirling Dervish

I took this at a restaurant, aptly-titled Dervish, in Istanbul last week.
